Vegas Baby!

Good news islanders! Today Westjet annouced that they are now offering seasonal service to Las Vegas from Victoria (YYJ). No need to factor in ferry and parking costs. This new non-stop flight will operate three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Las Vegas is such a unique place to visit. I can’t think of any other city that comes close to the amount of money, tourist attractions, shows, and energy, all in a couple mile strip. I’ve only visited a few times but I know I have only scratched the surface. If you haven’t seen a Cirque Du Soleil show definitely do not miss out on O. It puts the little tent at False Creek to shame.

Set Sail to Victoria on Them!

On Monday, July 28th, Tourism Victoria in partnership with B.C. Ferries will be offering a great promotion for August travel. Tourism Victoria will pick up the tab for your ferry ride when you book two nights accommodation in the Greater Victoria area.

If you haven’t experienced Victoria what are you waiting for?

Victoria is a great city with so much heritage. Be sure to check out Hatley Park, home of the mansion used for X-Men. Have high tea at the Fairmount Empress hotel or just walk around the historic downtown. There is just so many little things to do I always find something new when I go.

Tourism Victoria will pay the ferry travel to and from Vancouver Swartz Bay terminal, but you must book from the Tourism Victoria website to qualify.

Travel Tips: Last Minute Travel Deals

Unsure where to go this summer? Why not take advantage of last minute travel deals on hotels and airfare.

Introducing Travelzoo:
Travelzoo is a hotel and airfare deal newsletter with over 12 million subscribers wordwide. Travelzoo’s deal experts source, research and test-book recommended deals before publishing. “We also provide our subscribers tips on when offers are available and where to find the best deals.”

What does that mean to me?
It’s the strength in numbers! With an audience of 12 million subscribers, hotels and airlines with unsold rooms and seats looking for some last minute business work an arrangement with Travelzoo. To the businesses this is one tool that will get your special out to a lot of people fast!

You may not know where you are going for vacation but you do know that you want to go somewhere, this newsletter is a great way to save some money and pickup a last minute sale.

Travel Tips: How To Find Cheap Flight Deals

My last post I introduced Kayak a travel deal aggregator, but what if you don’t have time to search every day for deals or always wanted to go to Las Vegas but missed the seat sales.

Introducing Airfarewatchdog:
What makes this site different from sites like Expedia and Kayak, it is actually run by a small handful of people who keep an eye out for travel deals. “We do not use automation or computer programs to find the fares we list.”

How it works?
The way it works is you tell the site what your home airport is and how often you want to be updated. Bowser does the rest!

Travel Tips: Cheap Flights, Cars, Hotels

With Summer Vacation season in full tilt many of us are getting out of the city, visiting family, going to weddings, etc. Have you thought going from site to site checking prices on flights is tedious? I sure do!

Introducing Kayak.com
Kayak is the Google equivalent in travel search engines and was started by founders of Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia who believed in a better online travel experience. Kayak is not here to try to sell you something, it goes out and finds all the best possible rates available from hotels, flights, cars and cruises.

YVR to

YVR to San Francisco

Another great feature is the Trend Chart. This gives you a better picture on how prices are if you were flexible on your dates. For example, if you know you want to go to San Francisco for the WordCamp, Sunday August 10-14 would be cheaper.

Kayak makes money from the Google Ads you see around the sites and click through from the results. They do not monetize the results so companies can not “Pay” to land on the top spot.

Where are you going this summer? Do you have any other travel tips?
