Healthy Blogger

As I sit here typing away at the keyboard every so slowly inching towards smacking my face to the keyboard I wonder how many bloggers or computer users have good posture while at their desk or workstation.

Do you hunch forward with your neck down? Is your wrists all bent out of shape because your keyboard is at the wrong height? Our bodies are not meant to be in this hunch over position for long periods of time.

Make sure you are walking around, standing and even shifting your position from time to time which will allow your muscles to relax so that they will not get stiff from being in the same position all day.

Here’s a set of excellent good posture tips from Ahtim.com

Fitness Bootcamp

Posted by Danny Dang on Saturday, July 26th, 2008

The last few years I have been steadily putting on weight. I finally got fed up with not having the energy, being caught in the cycle of work, sleep, work sleep that I decided to join a Fitness Bootcamp in Richmond.

On Tuesday, I started my first bootcamp run by the pain maker, Maki Riddington. As quoted from his website, Maki is a BCRPA strength and conditioning and body recomp specialist who has close to 10 years of fitness training experience and has worked throughout the Richmond area and parts of Vancouver in a number of gyms. Even though Tuesdays class was not a full class, it kicked my ass!

I honestly have not been very active in many years since changing careers. In my teenage years I was active in martial arts, Taekwondo is particular, volleyball, tennis, and rollerblading. I love rollerblading around False Creek. I would go every evening from Science World to Stanley Park and back again.

I was warned that many people have puked from his class, but I was up for the challenge. I needed to kick start my fitness some how and mindlessly going from machine to machine at the gym was not working.

The fitness bootcamp is 3 days a week starting at happy hour, 6AM. I am nowhere near a morning person, night owls FTW! Drastic measures were needed. I was met there by various athletic abilities from returning bootcampers, gym staff, to hockey players looking to get to the next level. I felt very intimidated being so out of shape. This coming from someone who use to break boards and bricks without a hesitation.

This is not the stereotypical boot camps you see on reality shows where some guy is just standing there yelling at you. Every day is a different workout which varies from lines, to circuits. Drawing figure 8’s with a bosu ball may sound\look easy, but after dragging a tire back and forth, rowing, skipping, etc. that ball feels like a 1000 pounds!!

If you are looking for that extra push to the next level or a kick in the ass to get your health back in the gear I highly recommend Maki’s Fitness Bootcamp.  You be reunited with some long lost muscles. Let him know you heard about his program from my post.

If you have watched 300 last weekend and came out of the theatre feeling out of shape or fat your not alone! The Sparta warriors looked unreal! There were no special effects or touch ups; all real muscle. If you’re wondering what kind of training was needed to look like a true Spartan Warrior

HydraCoach

Posted by Danny Dang on Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

HydraCoachI have the hardest time staying hydrated. I know, I know… 8 glasses a day. If I’m lucky I can down 3 glasses for the whole day. Sportline has created the HydraCoach water bottle that keeps track of how much you have consumed as well as reminds you to drink more if you are behind. I think I’m sold! You can purchase it at Amazon.
