My Nightmare story...

When I was about 10 my dad bought home a black Scots Terrier which he nicknamed "Scoots"...

I loved that doggie with all my 10 year old heart and soul.

Then one day my mom took me to the Red River Exhibition (Winnipeg's then version of the PNE)...

There were no buses in those days and Scoots followed us to the Streetcar stop (Google streetcar if you don't know - it is like a troplley bus that runs on rails) which was only a few blocks from our home in East Kildonan.

We shooed Scoots home...but what we didn't know is that he probably followed the Streetcar as far as he could downtown before running out of breath and energy.

We never saw Scoots again but I remember him like it was yesterday.

There was a 1950's pop song called "How much is that doggy in the window" (sung by Patti Page I think tho my memory is probably off:)

"How much is that doggy in the window...arf arf" (the dog's bark was recorded in time to the beat)...

"The one with the waggely tail...arf arf"

"How much is that doggy in the window...arf arf"

"I sure hope that doggy's for sale..."

When you're 10 the artistic shortcoming don't count...

Whenever I heard that song or passed a poster for "Perths Dry Cleaners" which showed matching black and white Scots Terriers...

I burst into copious tears...

My nightmare:

That I should have to go through that again!

I love you Scoots!!!
